I cant seem to get windbg to load any symbols despite my best efforts so I can actually get some usefull information out of my crash dump files.

Im rather upset upgraded from a via chipset and amd tbird to an ASUSP4P800 delux and 2.4c also had to upgrade the vid card went with an ATI 9200 128mb and I have a matched pair of kingston hyperx 256's.

Im running win2kpro what I was on my old system and would run flawlessly for weeks at a time. I have all the newest M$ updates installled. I have hyperthreading disabled and win2k configured for a single processor. I flashed the new bios using the asus updater. I installed the new intel chipset drivers. The list goes on......

Can anyone convince me to not A: toss this invest ment in the trash and put together my old system or B: Go looking for the latest version of redhat.... or perhaps both.

I have an Antec 300watt ps and using asus probe the voltage to all monitored components has been dead on whenever my system has crashed. The heat is ALOT higher than I would like it to be. I have the retail HSF and enabled Qfan controll and set the ratio to 15/16 and had removed the metal pad from the heatsink and applied a thin layer of artic silver 3 to the h/s before booting I did the same to my ram controller heatsink and heatsink on the vid card. Currently Asus probe is monitoring my cpu temp @ 36c and mobo @ 39c and fan at 2,766rpm. I checked my asus probe logs thinking my crashes could have been due to heat but never noticed a signifigant increase (checked the logs for three seperate crashes).

Also I was having IRQ conflicts between some of the USB controllers and my 9200 and audigy 2 so I disabled the two USB controllers that we're competeing with them instead of trying to go about diableing ACMI and such.

Umm.... yah..... also got a leadtek tv tuner card installed and the extra windows support tools includeing the ones from the msdn developers kit (neglected to install the kit itself). Im currently running two HDD's a 120gig maxtor with a 4.5gig partion dedicated to windows and the rest for my other programs and a 30gig maxtor that houses my mp3's and movies both are configured to be dynamic disks and use NTFS.

Do I give up and start over again? I did try to reformat once already.... any idea's?

Frey,

There is nothing wrong at all with those temps.
Why do you have hyperthreading disabled?
My P4P800 with the 2.4c on W2K runs very smooth.
I'm probably wrong, but 4.5gig is half of what I use for my C:\. I use 8gig minimum.

Well technically (though I do believe its solely for marketing purposes etc.) hyperthreading is not supported by win2k and I originally had it enabled and win2k setup for multiprocessors but I disabled it in an attempt to see if it would fix some of these issues. Im posting from the machine now I mean it runs well enough when it runs but have been having alot of stability issues and Im inclined to believe their software based. Im planning to keep toying with it as I have time.

Oh also Im starting to uninstall some of the windoze updates to try and see if that helps...

Well apparently my .net package was damadged I reinstalled it and then removed it and also removed IE6. I also enabled hyperthreading and changed my driver over for multiprocessing. We shall see....
