Hello
I was doing a simple job for a friend, I noticed the box had a stick of pc100 and a stick of 133 with a fsb of 133. I powered down the unit(I thought-no I didnt unplug it) and I accidently pulled the stick of pc100 out with the unit ON.
Now it won't even post. Black screen, no beeps.
It's a 1 gig PIII Dell.
Help.

you've prob fried the RAM or the MB.....borrow a stick of ram and see if the comp will start....if not, the MB is dead.

Yeah, thanks that's what I feared. I tried another stick of ram.
Nothing.
It's a Dell- I don't suppose I can run out and grab a used mobo and no one will know... any ideas on where a Dell parts house would be?Preferably used :)

If its under warrenty you could send it in and tell em you have no idea what happened.

You could also try removing the battery on the motherboard for about 15min. I doubt that would work, but it's worth a shot.
Also, unplug the PSU from the motherboard and hit the power button. Plug it back in and try booting again.

Try calling Dell and seeing if they will replace the board at a minimal cost. It's worth a shot right? If not i don't know what to say. I hear that switching the mobos on dells causes problems with everything else. I can't confirm this though since i don't remember where i heard it.
Or you could just give it to him and say it was broke when you got it.

Thanks all,
I know some people at Dell, maybe they have an idea. I really like the warranty- I dont have a clue idea-but I have a feeling it is not a quick turn around.
Thanks again

I've only done the warrenty thing with my old compaq and I drove it to an authorized computer shop and they took 4 days to replace the power supply and then i picked it up...... Dell will prob do something along the same lines.

Any ideas on how long/what kind of warranty there is on a commercially-prepared-type-unit. Years? Months? Hours?
I've always "custom built" (pieced mine together)
