A friend is looking to buy a DVD Burner and is seriously considering the Pioneer A-05, based upon recommendations from others. He asked if I would put up a post for thoughts or opinions on this drive or any other DVD burners in the $200+/- price range. He will be using it with a high end DV Editing setup. Also, any benefits of external over internal other than ease of mobility. IDE better than Firewire or Usb2.0?

TIA

Go with the Poineer. Never heard of any complaints so far. They make quality products. If you can get it for that price range of around $200 go for it.

I wouldn't buy the A05, it's a minus only drive. Get the A06 instead, that's a dualformat one.
Also there are other nice dvd burners. LiteOn for example makes a plus only drive that burns both +R and +RW at 4x speed, and it costs only 150 or 190, something like that.

What's the difference between minus drives and plus drives? Like these:
DVD-RW/-R or something like that. Can it still do CDRW functions and CDROM stuff?
Thanks-
