new mobo for older tower

Hi all,

I think I may have a small problem with the coming installation of my new mobo.I have an Asus p4pe on order (OEM) which I'll be receiving in a while. My tower is an older Inwin atx q500.

I think I recall hearing that the new mobos had a screw-hole configuration that did not line up with the holes of the older cases (although all are ATX) and that the retail versions included an interface plate. Is this true?

Will I have to drill out the floor of my case in order to tap in the bronze spacers? Anyone know about this situation?

As far as I've experience with my 2 1/2 year old Chieftec, it accepts new ATX boards just fine. The ATX standard hasn't changed, so the hole for the spacers should be in the same spot. There will typically be more holes in the case than you need for your board, though.

As far as the back plate goes, yes, you will get a custom one with your motherboard, which will just pop into place on the back of your case.

You will be OK as long as the case conforms to the ATX standard.

However, have a look at the PSU, make sure it is :

1. Of good quality
2. Has a rating of at least 300watts
3. Clear of any dust build up.

Is this true?As long as the Inwin is a ATX form factor case, the ASUS motherboard will line up to the correct mounting holes on the motherboard tray. What you might encounter is if that motherboard is a full sized ATX and the Inwin isn't deep enough (from front to back), you may or may not be able to use all the 5.25" drive bays if the memory sockets on the motherboard are near the edge of the board...the RAM sticks will block the lower drive bays.Originally posted by bardos
