loading windows

i finally fixed the problem with puter it is posting and ready to load, the problem i now i have is i cant it to load the windows cd. i have inserted the floppy boot disk, formated the hard drive in a previous time and started to load windows it failed at the time the psu was not enough fixed that, so i did the floppy again , format, all worked but i cant get the cd to load. now i am assuming that the drive is partitoned. all it does is flash the windows logo fast then goes to c prompt. not sure whats wrong any ideas?

k7n2 mother board,amd athlon22oo processer, 350watt antec psu, 40 gig western digital harddrive, 512 mb pc2700,msi tnt2 video card.

in your bios, do you have your first boot device set to CDrom??

Have you tried loading Windows directly from the Win98 CD instead of trying to boot to the floppy first?

Is this a Windows 98 FE Upgrade version CD?

If it is, you cannot boot from it.

Try using fdisk again: first deleting any partitions you created before while having problems with your previous setup. Then create the Primary Dos Partition that will hold Windows 98, and mark it active. Boot with either a bootable Win98 floppy (from the same version you'll be installing) or the Win98 CD if you have a bootable one, and let Setup format the drive for you (answer "Yes" to "Enable Large Disk Support" = this will have Win98 use the FAT32 file system while formatting).

To get the CD to start setup:
1) From a bootable floppy, you'll have to switch to the letter of your CD drive - (some bootable floppies create a "RAM Drive", so you'll have to watch closely during bootup to see what letter it assigned your cd-drive - - - some of the bootdisk.com floppies use drive "R" for the cd-drive), and then type Setup.
2) From a bootable CD, you'll only have to remember to set the boot order in your Bios Setup screens to CDROM first. (just like Dan pointed out)

See if that does the trick.

ty for the info, the cd is fours years old and is not up grade, it boots floppy first then hd then cdrom. i may have to partition it again, was not sure. ty and i will try this, hopefully i get it in. will let you know.
