Buddy of mine has a case, mouse, keyboard and monitor all painted red (took the keyboard apart to clean it and the keys are still white.) Looks kinda cool. The finish you get is much like the prep you would do to a car or any other metal surface. Not much you can do to plastic except clean it well and remove any slag that might be showing. A couple coats of clear would add some awesome depth.

Just had another idea for an aluminum case mod. Take the case parts to an anodizing shop and have them made any color they have for anodizing. I did that with gold wheels on a race car years ago.

No one can teach you to spray, youll have to waste one can practicing on some clean sheet metal- maybe buy a $15 PC
at a thrift shop. Too far away and the finish will be powdery- Too close and it will run. Many, many thin coats. After the first coat you should see a fair amount of the original color still showing. Other coats just as thin. Maybe 5 coats. Let each coat dry for at least an hour or longer.
Clean all surfaces with a mild degreaser like mineral spirits, or denatured alcohol, or hot water and detergent, prior to spraying.
The plastic on the front might be a problem in that the enamel paint wont stick. I'd check that out first before
wasting my time on the case. Check with a hobby shop
that sells stuff to geezers that fool around with toy trains - they might have some special spray paint for plastic.
Go for it- at worst you'll have to buy a new case !

PS- on second thought I don't think it will work- How are you going to stop the paint vapours getting inside the floppy and Cd drives etc when you sparu the front bezel ? I'd try your thrift shop one with a paint brush on the plastic if you are determined to do it. Is it worth it ?

Well, Parangles, I was gonna say something about the "geezers" comment. Then I looked at your profile and saw you're 6 years older that me!! I was gonna take offense to your remark, but you can call em geezers if you want. You've probably earned it, eh?:D

Do a search on these forums. There have been numerous threads on painting. I remember one of them gave links for plastic prep and painting.

Panama Red, I was just looking when I went in there !
Trains ? Model boats ? RC planes ? Never!
As for ' Geezers' , I saw a lovely sign on a guys desk " So soon so old, so late so smart"
