If it consistently is losing time it is because the motherboard battery is dying. It is a watch battery and can be purchased at KMart, etc. It is easy to put in. If you don't replace it, it will eventually die, and you lose the CMOS settings

How old is your computer? If it's fairly old, the battery probably needs to be replaced.

If it's fairly new, it could be a software related problem...what background programs are you running on that computer?

Five years is about right for battery die off. Do not take out the old battery to go get a new one, if you do then you are resetting the bios.

Open the PC up and get the numbers from the battery by looking at it or get the replacement info from manual's support sites. Radio Shack is another source for batteries, where ever you go make sure the stock looks fresh. If it is an old dusty faded package then you are likely not to get another 5 years off of it.

If you are reasonably quick in the change you should not lose the bios settings when you make the switch.
