Hi

When I bootup my computer it says that c:/windows/system32.system.exe is missing.

I had a virus and Norton could not repair it so I deleted the file but now my computer takes ages to boot up.

Is there any way of copying this file from my windows xp disc or is there another way.

Any help would be appreciated guys.

Cheers

Julian

Try a repair by booting with the XP cd. Assumes you have an install CD and that you can set bios to boot from cd before hdd.

There is no file system.exe or at least there shouldnt be. Please do not run a restore/repair yet as you might lose settings that you might like to keep.

system.exe is a file that iwas part of the virus that norton rightfully got rid of. It just has an official sounding name so that people dont get suspicious. Please check your startup settings to see where system.exe is called from and remove reference to it. If you require help on how to check these settings please post back here. When posting, it will also help immensely if you gave us the name of the virus you got - it would help us give you more direct information.

Please do not x-post, just wastes everyone's time reading and replying to the same post.
