View Full Version : Saving space
Hi, I upgraded from Win95 to Win98SE. It said it would save my existing setup files in case I need to uninstall windows, which would take up 110Mb.
I want to remove these now, where can I find them, and is it safe to delete them?
Also, any other ideas for system stuff that can be removed to save disk space?
many thanks.

Nbee-
how much free space do you have? to a 20 or 40 gig hd, 110 mb is not that much. you may want to unistall your os at some point, it's a lot easier with the add/remove programs option.
to save space, just before you shut down empty the C:/windows/temp forlder, the temporary internet folder and the cookies folder. keeping these folders from building up files will keep your internet experience better. you'd be surprised how much can build up in the temp folder.
also, if you save certain email messages, save them as text files instead of mail.
you can look in add/remove programs and click on the windows setup tab. check to see if there are programs installed that you don't use like handicap accessability or wallpapers and screen savers. Desktop themes takes up over 30 mb.
If you have a digital camera or store scans of photos, you can save them as jpegs intead of bitmaps.
But if you are really hard pressed for space, hard drives are not that expensive or hard to install...a system will run lots better and faster with lots of free space.
