View Full Version : Laser Printer Prints Just Black

Hi there,

My Mom's Computer has an old Brother HL-10V Laser Printer hooked, which used to print flawlessly.

Now, for about a week, the printer prints just black... First, I thought, the laser diod has gone dead. But when you hold the black printed page to the light, you can see that the printer prints still just fine (the text is readable), but then it floods all with black toner, and the print is then useless.

What could that be?
Can this be fixed?

As you expect, the brother website is just useless, even for current products... :(

The effect occurs in both DOS and graphic mode, in other words, with every print.

Any help is highly appreciated! TIA

Felix

(PS: If anyone wonders where I'm being off all the time -- I'm no longer PC sysadmin; I'm for a year now in railway interlocking business (no, not those that stopped CSX last week :)

When I have seen this it was usually fixed by replacing the cartridge.

Check out this link at fixyourownprinter.com:

"Bill" from the site recommends this:

"Take out the drum/cartridge. Look at where the scanner shoots a beam on to the drum. There should be a metal grid if you will that has toner build up on it.
Take some canned air, and blow this out. Several of our customers have had this problem and this cure has worked.
I do not know why this happens( could be an indication that the drum is going bad) but have had zero call backs since the fix."

And there's another post regarding the corona wire and voltage so check it out.
