When I log onto my Hotmail Account all I get is text with some symbols mixed in, when I should be getting my Inbox instead.
It displays fine before I log in.
So I was wondering if anyone knew what was causing this and/or how I would go about getting it to display correctly.
Thanks

Contact Hotmail support as it may be a known issue with them.

Hmmmm
The interesting thing about it is that it only does it on this computer.
If I log in from a different computer, then it works just fine.

Try seeing if your font rendering is somehow corrupt etc. I dont know what fonts the hotmail pages use - I believe its UTF-8. I would think this would be a good time to do an IE repair. Have you tried seeing if pages will load up on an alternate browser like Mozilla or Opera?

Well, it seems to be worse than I first thought.
I can receive email via Outlook Express, but I cant open or read any of it.
Then I find out that my CD drive will no longer read any of my CD's
Sooooo, I think perhaps I have a Virus and am now trying to figure out a way to restore my computer without reloading it from scratch.

Hi,
I'd seriously consider FDISKing and going from scratch.
You'll probably find it runs much better after that, and you will be sure to rid yourself of the virus and anything else you don't want.
Also consider getting a copy of Ghost and creating an image once you've installed your OS and any apps you always want. That way it is a 10 minute restore to perfect working order in the future.
HTH,
David.

Ok David
After some delays and head-scratching, I took your advice and started over from scratch. And now all my emails work again.
As a bonus, I replaced a defective 12x cdrom drive with a 24x.
So thanks for your help, and I would also like to thank the others who replied to my query for help.

Ok
Looks like I still haven't solved the problem.
After I re-bricked my computer, hotmail worked fine.
Then I did several Microsoft updates and now it don't work anymore.
Instead of displaying my inbox after I log on, it displays a page of text that starts with HTTP/1.0 302 Redirected Server: Microsoft IIS/5.0.
I tried searching Microsofts Online Support - no help there - .
So I was wondering if anyone else has run across the same problem.
Everything else displays fine but Hotmail & my Outlook Express Mail works fine as well.
Thanks
Thanks

Ok
I think I got it this time.
My Hotmail and Outlook Express are both working now that I have rebricked my computer with Window ME and IE 5.50.4134.0100.
This time I am not going to upgrade to IE 6.0.2800.1106 as I believe that is where the problem comes in.
Smart move - stick with 5.5.

What is (generally) wrong with IE6.1?
I haven't had any issues that I know of....
Thanks,
David.
IE6 works fine with Win2K/XP but on a 9x based machine (which ME is) I've seen a LOT of issues.

Hi,
Is IE5.5 safe though?
I use the term 'safe' in the loosest possible terms of course, since we are discussing IE here, but given the number of patches that seem to come out for IE6, I was wondering whether MS is also maintaining IE5.5 to keep it 'safe' from the latest vulnerabilities that are being discovered?
Thanks,
David.

Just a reallll small question, why bother with Win ME?.... if your Hdware can take it, and you have a 'fresh' as in not too much of anything on it.. start over again, and install Win 2k or XP.
Just a thought.
