I'm looking for a good 'free' media player that I can use to rip all of my cd's to my computer. It would be good if it used the CDDB feature to find the titles automatically. I have heard of a winamp plugin that does this but I can't find it.

I knew someone would suggest wmp. I usually have found it too slow, but I might try the new version.

I find Version 9 of WMP to be really quick when encoding music. I also enjoy using CDex. In Winamp you need to select the 'Nullsoft Disk Writer', but as far as I know it only encodes in .wav format.

Easier to keep them seperate. Winamp for playing, CDex or EAC for ripping. Let each program excel at what it's suppose to do.

I forgot about CDex, I will probably get that. WMP only goes in wma format - personally I would rather have wav's.

Install an MP3 codec

Add the following registry entries in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Settings\MP3Encoding
"LowRate"=dword:0000dac0
"MediumRate"=dword:0001f400
"MediumHighRate"=dword:0003e800
"HighRate"=dword:0004e200

WMP now can rip to MP3

HANDLE WITH CARE AND ALSO BACKUP YOUR REGISTRY BEFORE EDITING

Correct, you will have to create it. And create the DWords as well.

Hope this helps!
