Networking with Outlook Express

I use Outlook Express and Windows XP on my home network. There are two computer networked with a wireless router. Is there a way for these two computers to use common email folders? I want to be able to use email from either computer but avoid having two different inboxes and sent items folders. I can't figure out how to get OE to use shared folders so that both computers look to the same source.

I don't think that is possible with Outlook Express. To do something like that you would need to set up one of the computers as a kind of e-mail server.

I have no idea if this will work, but can't you tell OE where to put its folders?

If so, why not point them to a common drive / file name, and see what happens? I suggest you do that without any emails in there that you want to keep - you might lose everything in both copies if it doesn't work.

You might also have to edit the registry on one of the computers to get the identities the same - no idea if that will damage anything though.

Big caveat on both of the above - try at your own risk, since I have not done this myself!

Thanks for the responses. Actually I can't figure out how to tell OE where to put its folders. Apparently this is not an option, at leaast not as far as I can tell. Doc may be on the right track with setting up a server, but I think I will just limit myself to using one computer for email. Thanks for the responses!

You can change OE's store folder in OE>Tools>Options>Maintenance tab, click on the button, "Store Folder."

Then browse to where you want the store folder to be.

It should work so long as the computer with the store folder on it is running...kinda' hard to access a folder on a computer that's shut down. ;)
