I just recently bought Return To Castle Wolfenstein. when i was installing it, the graphics looked great. But when it was all said and done i started playing, and HOLY COW, the graphics went all freaky.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
RTCW minimum requirements [what i have]
CPU: Intel P2 [P2 Celeron]
OS: Windows 95 [Win98SE]
RAM: 128 Megs [64 Megs]
CD-ROM Speed: 4x [?]
Misc: DireectX8.0a, OpenGL [?] [?]
------------------------------------------------------------------------

the screen was completely brown, but the sillhouette of the knife/gun whatever i had was black, the only other color was the lights, during a FMV, a guy was getting electrocuted, i saw the lightening, i see the torches on the walls. just nothing else

Well first you should probably never play a game that you have less than the minimum requirements for and second for OpenGL you might need a better video card. Which video card do you have now?

It doesn't really matter; it won't work unless you get more memory.

I have had no troubles working with lesser systems as long as you understand a few things:

shut off all other programs
set you video card refreash rate to optimal
start the game with the lowest resolution in the game settings

only try to crank it up a notch if you are able to do these things decent. then start with a little resolution increse if you can get that where you want it try some better color.

ram is that important but not always on the critical path to be able to enjoy the game some.

If your video card does not have open GL I belive you can DL an emulator although dont expect to play the game with any kill fram rates.
