OwnName registry edit

My ISP wants me to change the setting in the registry under OwnName to my name. Would this allow them to limit or give me more bandwidth? I am on a wireless connection. I have an antenna on my roof aimed at a tower on a ridge nearby.
Or will this only allow them to see who is downloading what? Thanks in advance for your responses.
BTW..is there a way to get more bandwidth from them without them knowing;)

Changing the name will help THEM identify YOU.

If it was me, I would not change the registry key until you really need to do it. for the bandwith, the ISP can see every byte you download, there is no way to counter this (unless you know someone from the inside :p)

It looks like they want a way to see you.

Since most wireless ISP's I have seen use some form of 802.11 a,b, or G
having the channel and encryption key is all you need to connect i believe, as least with a local company. It looks like they want to know who is on the network by reading the computer names.

They may have a policy that if users refuse, they may not provide service.

As for more brandwidth, no, they will have a limit on what they send out, the best you can do if have a good signal strength.
