Ati and Nvidia

I've been looking at ati and nvidia cards and want to know whats with nvidia the 5900ultra has a 500gram heatsink.

And this week I got my 9800 in and when I looked at my ti4200 it has a bigger heatsink then the 9800.

Why do nvidia cards make so much heat compared to the ati cards. Most of the fx line take up 1 pci slot.

It mostly depends on the design of the chip, and the fact that the nVidia chips run at higher clock speeds.
