Hi all,

I have the graphics card in my sig, I have been offered a GF4 4800Ti SE Golden Sample (Gainward) for nothing.

My question is, With this being a retrograde step in relation to the card, would you swap them. If I remember correctly the Ti 4800 is not a directx 9 card, and my FX5200 is. There are no games that fully utilise DX9 yet and I'm not a big gamer, just the odd hour on SOFII, H&D, Wolfenstein (ET, online).

The above games run flawless on my rig and I am more than happy with the frame rates. 3D marks are only an amusement for me, I don't really take too much interest to them.

So would you change over to the Ti4800 from the FX5200?

All opinions welcomed.

Steve

I definatley would. The Geforce FX Series has no true dx 9.0 cards unlike ATI. The Geforce 4 TI4800 will destroy the Geforce FX 5200 in all tests. The Geforce FX 5200 is nice to haev for a basic set-up. If I were in your situation though I probably wouldnt since I would be satisfied with the frame rates and would not need any better.

I agree, the Ti 4800 would trounce the FX 5200...even the Ti 4200 beats it. I wouldn't sweat about the lack of DX9 support. For one, you're not that big a gamer and the FX series cards perform horribly in DX9 games. I'd say ditch the 5200 and get the 4800! Seems like a backward move, but worth it IMO.

Well I did it.

Apart from a couple of thousand extra points in 3Dmark 2001, I can see no descernable difference, except it is a little quieter than the FX5200 which surprises me.

Will hopefully get the chance to give a few games a testing tonight.

thanks for the opinions, I'll run it for a few weeks to see......

Nvidia did right with the 4Ti series cards. The FX series is a step backwards in my opinion.
