Currently when I download in IE, the default downloand folder is My Documents. I don't know if this is the standard default or not, but does IE 5.5 permit me to change the default downloand folder? Thanks in advance for your advice.

Good question. I also want to know.

You CAN change the default download folder, however, Windowsupdate will no longer work. Something in the path statement in the registry is checked, before windowsupdate will work. If it's changed...you get the idea.
Can't have your cake and eat it too.
Caveat: there are some software packages that SAY they can do it, (IE plugins of some sort), however I haven't tried any of them to see.

Is there a significant change of the way the browser works between IE 5 or 5.1 and 5.5? I have always sent my downloaded proggies to a folder that I set up called Internet downloads. I don't understand how this effects Windows Updates. I never seem to have problems.

To clarify, there are about 4 registry entries dealing with default folders, specifically attached to IE. Depending on HOW you choose to download (right click, save target as, left click, or with a download agent) they can be changed.
I can't remember the specific registry entry, but if changed, it will cause all windowsupdates to fail.
Just a word of caution is all. I would give specifics, but don't have a 98 box to check on it.
