Hi Ho

I want to back up files and I have two questions.

1. Where in the world is the Windows Backup utility? I cannot find it on the XP Home disk or my computer.

2. How can I fit my 816mb "My Pictures" folder to a CD or spread it accross two discs. Is there any way to do this with Nero 6?

Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Backup
Try compressing the folder to get them to fit on one drive. Otherwise, just manually split the folder so that they fit on one CD.

There is no backup under System tools.

Start - Run - ntbackup

If it's not found, it's not installed.

It's not installed. How do I install it? I'm not even sure if the Windows backup is what I want. Does it allow me to backup my files on CD?

it backs it up into a bac or bak file. then you can put that file wherever you want. IF youre backing up to a cd youre most likely not backing up your os, are you?

No, I want to keep a steady bacup of Pictures and other important files. I am going to reinstall Windows soon. After I get my graphics card replaced, a new PSU, and replace some incompatible RAM.

why even bother backing up? why not just burn to a cd?

(edit)

Also, you can either split the files into two folders.
(my pictures 1 and my pictures 2) and then just copy paste them. or you can get winrar and divide them into two rar files. then whenever you want them you have to recombine the rars and you get that one folder. I would go with the first way.

I have too many files. I want to be able to backup just the one that have changed. I also want to use CD-RW so I don't use 50cd's a month.

But either way... youre burning a file to a disc, wether it be the files itself or the backup.

It takes forever to sort through all the files and find the ones I want to backup.

I dont see how backing up will fix this. and you cant fit 816 megs on a disc. you can fit 730 if you finalize it

I have a program that splits files into any size I want. I currently have 2.5gb of files on four CD's.

Another option is to get another HD and use a HD rack. Just slap the HD in, backup, and then remove the HD.

Fast and easy. No splitting or compressing of files is necessary.

However, for really important data, I still recommend doing backups to CD-R or CD-RW as well.
