Strike ONE
I am trying to set up my new printer, a lexmark x75. When I first plug it in to the USB connection, (the same one that my ZIP-CD-Burnner was using happily), Windows replies "New Hardware Found"... Unknown Device.
Strike TWO
I found an article about fully installing USB Hardware List drivers from the CDROM. This consited of extracting the usb.inf file from the precopy2.cab file on the Windows 98 CD and coping it to the c:\windows\inf directory.
This time, windows recognized the device as a "Generic USB Hub". This met it's failure when the install/configure process began asking for additional files and could not locate them on my computer or windows 98 CDROM.
Before "Strike THREE", can anyone direct me to the proper installation of USB drivers and ultimately my shiny new Printer?

here you go
http://drivers.lexmark.com/drivers.nsf/printer+driver/176B26E559DC6EE985256BEA0062C2F6?OpenDocument&Lexmark+X74-X75
this is where you can download the lexmark drivers for your printer (win98)
you should install it before plugging in the printer

Most USB devices require that you install the drivers FIRST on Win98 and rebooting BEFORE plugging the device in. Gotta read the instructions.
