SPECS:
Operating system: Win XP Pro
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-7NNXP
Processor: AMD XP 2500+
Memory: 1536MB Crucial
Graphic Card: ATI Radeon 9700 PRO (latest drivers installed)
Soundcard: Audigy 2
Hard Drives: Maxtor 6YO80PO and 6YO60LO
CD rom: Kenwood 72X TRUEX
CD/RW: Plextor PX_W4824A
2WIRE DSL modem
DIRECTX 9.0b version
I recently upgraded from Gigabyte's GA-7VAXP motherboard to the GA-7NNXP. Since installing the mobo (tryed out two different ones) with out any problems I have this problem where I get asked to insert the correct cd even if the cd is in the drive already.
This is mostly games since that is the only software that I have that needs the cd to be in the drive. Probobly becasue of the copyright protection.
Installing goes fine. The cd's are recognized automaticlly. I tried both cd-rom and cd-rw but I get the same message to insert the correct cd. I can pretty much use the drives fine except I can't start any games on my pc without the "no-cd" patch.
I don't know what to do. The impression I have is that there is something wrong with cd recognizing the protection. I mean it treats the original cd like a copy and well tells me to insert the correct cd.
I have the new NERO software installed since I read that burning applications can cause problems for cd drives but...after having this problem I reinstalled windows/reformated the whole thing and the first thing after installation I put a game on there to see if it is going to work and it doesn't. I get the same error pop up.
I don't think it is a problem with compability either since I had the GA-7VAXP and I didn't have any similar problems. Besides I did put in a different cd drive in (LIte On) and it was the same.
The games are also from different makers (ubi-soft, microsoft, EA etc.) but it doesn't matter it's always the same. The only game that will run is TRON 2.0, after I click on play ...the spinning cd icon shows up for about a minute and a half and then it will maybe start. Liek I said maybe ...it doesn't always start.
So waht should I do ....????

I have read in an older kenwood forum that truex is not compatible with WinXP, but like I said I used it for about 5-6 months with my old mobo with out any problems. Windows recognizes it fine and reports no problems with the device. I wasn't able to find a newer version of firmware for Kenwood but I did upgrade Plextors from 1.2 to 1.5
I also tried clean boot but problem still remains.
You have a TrueX that actually still WORKS?? Wow!

If youre using illegal games (which we know youre not) thats pretty much a fact of life. IF youre burning a copy its the same thing. If its the real cd it should read it as that, if its the actual cd and its not reading, i have no idea

Thanx for nothing. lol
Yes I am using a truex, and so what...its really silent and thats what I need. Besides it doesnt happen only with kenwood but with plextor too.
I am not using copied games...all originals.

These are the causes of the error that don't really apllay with me.
1.your CD-ROM drive is not compatible with the program.
2.You are using a copy of the program CD.
3.You are not logged on to the computer as an Administrator.
4.Bomb Shelter is interfering with the CD-ROM verification process.
5.You are running a Windows XP Home account that uses "fast user switching."
I have read this allready couple of days ago and it doesn't really help.
1.well plextor (so is kenwood) is compatible with the probram, like I said I allready used it with my old motherboard
2.I am using the original
3.I am logged on as the administrator
4.Not sure what bomb shelter is...something to do with McAffee virus program...well I have norton and the same problem exists with out any anti-virus software.
5.I am not...i got XP Pro and I am the only user.
I have read that whole page and nothing really helped me out. Thanx for the effort.
ANYONE???

I know that something might be interfiring with the verification process but what?
I have done a clean boot and like I said above the problem is still there.

I have allready done a clean boot, disabled everything in msconfig. I also thought that will work but it did not do anything.
I contacted gigabyte's tech support and ofcourse they were a lot of help. They did say it's not the mobo, lol. I dont know ..I need a soulution...
Anyone???
You have listed your IDE devices - and I see 4. Please detail how they are all hooked up.
Example: Hard drives on primary IDE, 80 wire, cable select - TrueX/burner on secondary IDE, 40 wire, master/slave.
Did you reinstall WinXP when you did the mobo swap? How about a repair? DMA enabled on all IDE channels?
Moderator comment: 2 thread bumps in 2 hours is not acceptable on this forum. Just sit back and be patient, people are responding when they have ideas.

Hi Iam a friend of Meskalin
2 HDD Primary on IDE 0 80 wire Priamary and Slave
2 CD ROM on IDE 1 80 wire Primary and Slave(CDRW primary)
We tryed the other way as well(it did not work)
We tryed other cables( it did not work)
OF course we reinstalled WIndows when we exchanged the MOBO
DMA is enabled
I can't see anything worng with this configuration, because it worked before we put the new MoBo GigaByte G7NNXP
WE exchanged 3 times in last month(I can not believe all of them have problems)
Before he had GigaByte GA-7VAXP
Have you tried Cable Select jumpering? Are the cables installed correctly (blue to mobo, black to master, gray to slave)?

i had the same problem as you with my old computer
i was reading another forum and they said that you shouldn't have 2 cd or dvd devices on the same ide cable
i switched them to different cables , and it worked

I disagree with that statement, you can have as many ide devices as will fit
I use a promise controler card for my 4 hard drives and the motherboard ide ports for my 4 optocal drives
1 cdrom
2 dvd rom
3 cdrw
4 dvdrw

Have you tried running the programs with one of the ROMs disconnected?
Also if you have 2 CDROMs you must insert the game CD in the same CDROM that you install the game from i.e. if you install from D: the game must be run from D: & if you install from E: the game must be run from E:
Hope you sort out your problems.

Of course we tryed all these options
I appreciate your help, but what we are trying to say is:
Everything worked fine until we changed the MoBo
And we already exchanged 3 of them, reinstalled Windows 3 times, tryed all possible configurations
After a few days of trying we just stoped, because we do not know what else we can do
What do you think about Harddrive, maybe to try another HDD?
all games are working on other computers

Just a silly thought, but I presume that you don't have Raid enabled on that IDE line?

Yes, I am not raid is disabled. So is Intel Gigabit lan, and so is any feature that I am not using curently.
I wastrying to open some set up files (with the cd-rom) and I would get the message that the parametar is incorrect.
So just to be safe, since few people told be about the truex (where I disagree...I think its a good cd rom) I took it out and made Plextor master. I'm reinstalling something right now to see if it did change anything.

Lol I don't know how the "I am not" got into the first sentance but...
Same problem...with plextor as master and kenwood not conected I still get the message insert the correct cd.
This is really driving me NUTS!!!

anyone?
When you reinstalled Windows, did you reformat or just reinstall over the top? I think I'd back up your data and wipe the system drive and reinstall clean. This assumes that your hardware is all good, which you seem to be confident in, but I'm not. I would personally make the Gigabyte board and the TrueX go bye-bye, but you don't want to hear that - and I don't want to hear your defense of the TrueX, this drive was discontinued for a very good reason - a high failure rate and a LOT of disk reading problems. Yes, I KNOW you have tried other drives. I also have not had very good experiences with Gigabyte motherboards but I haven't used any in quite a while - why should I when they screwed me in the past? Again, I KNOW you have tried more than one.
It's becoming obvious that nobody else has any fresh ideas in spite of your constant thread bumping, I think the reformat covers all the bases and if that doesn't work or you have already tried that, ditch the Gigabyte and get a different motherboard.

Yes I did reformat and wiped everything clean...
Here is the scoop...I've kinda learned to live with it ...I mean if I have a no cd patch I can get by.
My Plextor is the primary now and the true x is not even connected.
Now I got Max Payne 2, Commandos 3, Call of Duty and old deus ex.
Now Max Payne works, the drive reads the cd, I guess just like it should. It's the same with commandos 3, deus x or even tron 2.0
Now I got call of duty today and of course I can'T get it to run, same message again, insert the correct cd rom b***s***.
Why would some games/software run and some ...well ubi softs raven shield doesn't want to run or EA Medal of Honor doesn't run so I figure there must be something in the way the protection works on those cd's since Call of Duty is ...well the team from EA made it under their new company.
I am seriously thinking about ditching the MOBO (7nnXP) but what do you recommend to get that is as good as the mobo mentioned above.
Since I got the new gigabyte everything runs better (except the cd rom issue) I can crank up my 9700 PRO to optimal and it runs smooth as butter. Which it didnt happen on my previous boards.
SO I GUESS IF NOBODY CAN FIGURE OUT WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THIS CD ROM ERROR ...
WHAT MOBO SHOULD I SWITCH TOO...
THE GIGABYTE HAS A LOT OF FEATURES THAT I REALLY LIKE...I DONT KNOW I DONT KNOW...PLEASE HELP

so ?
My *honest* opinion? Asus P4C800-E and a Pentium 4. I don't like AMD chipsets.
Please do not start an Intel vs. AMD war here, I'm just saying what I would personally do.
Sorry, I'm not in a position to recommend any board over that Gigabyte - I don't pay much attention to the AMD side of the house other than the only boards I trust are Asus - and I hear that they have issues too.

After countless hours of meditating over this issue I finally realized that I have to really rack my brain to figure out what the hell is going on since nobody is actually able to figure out an solution for my problem.
After recreating all the steps of my mobo installation with help of meditation I noticed that I have actually always skiped to explore an feature called Nvidia SW driver. I always installed it without really knowing what it is. I dug into it and it has something to do with the ATA/IDE driver. So I went into windows and checked the properties of the IDE/ATAPI etc. and instead (secondary channel) of the BIOS setting I set it to PI0, and imagine it worked. I don't get any of those messages anymore and every cd works and candy is falling down from the sky and...ofcourse ...there is trouble everywhere since I put in my 9800XT in the pc I got an older dinpu8.dll messagge that I had with my old mobo. Check out the forum "Direct Input...what is going on" about more info on this wieird problem that also nobody seems to have an solution for.
OK just wanted to close the thread with an positive result since I ...yes I the unwothy pc not-xpert have fixed it.
Well I woulde appriciate it if you coulde look into my other "dinput" thread...I need help with that.
OK I'm leaving...have an dinput problem solving meditating session ahead...
and..mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
All you have done by switching from DMA mode to PIO is mask the problem, you still have an issue hiding there. I suppose if it works in PIO mode you can do what you want, but expect other CD-related problems such as slowness and high CPU utilization.

Well I might have done that but it helped me figure out where the problem lies.
It was in the nvidia SW ide driver, I guess it created similar problems with anyone who had an nforce2 mobo.
When I reinstall windows I will choose not to install the SW (it's also says in the read me section that this is an "as is" and that it can create problems...why do they even put out stuff like this) but replace it with an regular IDE dri9ver instead, I think that will solve the problem most definatly.
I'm not gonna reformat before I figure out how to get rid of the dinput8.dll/mermory reference problem but anyway I will let you guys know.

11-04-2003, 02:40 PM
OK I have finally solved the two main issues that were causeing a lot of headaches on my part. The dinput8.dll and the cd check erorr (cd error-post).
I am 100% sure that the dinput8.dll was corupted by my wireless keyboard. Since I went back reformated, reinstalled everything, step by step updating, graphic, sound chip set driver etc. and I would still get that damn error. Since dinput8.dll is a dll for input devices I just decided to try with a diferent keyboard and a mouse and can you belive it, it works. I have acctually put my wireless keyboard on again since now I can use the dxdiag or anything with out any problems and if they come up again, now that I actually know what was causing it, it's gonna be easy to repair/fix it.
One other thing I am concerned about is the Nvidia SW driver (came with my giagbyte instalation cd and follows up the chipset instalation).
The Nvidia SW driver replaces the ATA drivers that come with WIndows with drivers that are optimized for nforce2 based hardware.
Sw supposedly reduces the storage sub systems bottleneck, enabling the processor and other sys. level hardware to be more productive and efficiant.
"...nforce2 platform processors can significantly reduce the CPU time requird to retrive data from/ or store on HD (or other IDE devices) using the IDE logic inside nforce2 MCP and nforce2 MCP-T"
Now my other problem with this mobo was the IDE device communication, like the cd not being recognized even if it is in the cd rom. Like I said before I have set the primary/secondary chanells to PI0 and the problem was solved but in all acctuallity it didn not work because of the SW drivers. When I choose not to install the Nvidia SW driver, that error doesn't show up and under IDE ata/atapi controllers I end up with Nvidia MCP2 driver.
Now you might think its all good since I have actually fixed the causes of my pc problem but...I dont know if I am imaginig this that my pc is slower with out the SW driver.
The cd instalations seems to take longer, burning a cd takes longer, browsing is slower or pretty much everything ..if I did not go crazy I'd say that I really need that SW driver...but if I put it on the system doesnt work right and just like gigabyte said in the SW read me file....that it is a "as is" and "may cause problems"
I contacted Gigabytes tech support today and ofcourse ..they were really helpfull. What a waist of 30 minutes, it would have been better if I called myself and talked to myself for 30 minutes lol. Blah blah they can't help me the regular b s***.
NOw I guess I need to know since I don't have enough knowlege about this ...is my system gonna be fine with out the sw or ...what should I do.
Nvidia also offers a unified driver, but I read that it fixes mostly the audio (dolbydigital) issues and I use audigy 2 so....
Thanx
