I want to update my computer with a larger drive - I am using Windows XP with a 20G drive formatted using FAT32.

What I would like to do is copy my complete system over to the new drive formatted using NTFS and then rip out and format the old 20G drive to be used to update a relatives computer.

My question's are these -

1) Is this possible given the different file systems ?

2) Will I be able to copy everything over properly to save me having to start loading / updating all over again from scratch ?

Thanks

do the transfer of all the files from the old drive to the new drive first.

after the new drive is installed in the system and everything is working fiine, then you can have windows xp convert the drive over to the ntfs file system with no problems.

Convert the 20g to NTFS first. Open a command prompt and type:

convert c: /fs:ntfs

Then use a drive cloning utility from the hard drive manufacturer, Ghost, or Drive Image/Drive Copy to do the transfer.
