I have a fairly new computer using DSL everything was working fine until about a month ago by the way virus checked and spybot adware all that checked and have a zone alarm on at all times plus use avg virus protector.
OS system windows 98se.
About a month ago it started freezing when I was on the internet will work for about 15 minutes than everything will freeze up have to restart computer and than it does the same thing again. Says no memory. I have never had problems with memory before hardly anything on the computer and usually only used to brows plus sometimes kids use msn. It had 128 ram memory I added another 128 so now has 256 didn`t make any difference.
Everything is deleted like cookies etc at least once a week .
I could tell you more info about computer if required. But thought this might be enough at moment.

Did this problem start before or after you added another 128 MB stick of RAM?

The problem was before I added the ram

Okhams Razor: "For every problem, the simpliest solution tends to be the right one."

Do you have all security patches updated and everything updated?

Try switching out your sticks of RAM. Try one by itself, like the new one, and then try the other. See if you have a bad stick of RAM.

I really don`t think it is the ram as it was doing this before I installed the ram and I have used each ram separately and still have the same problem. But will try it again. Its just that everything worked fine until about a month ago. after installing the new ram and using them both together it worked ok for about two or three hours it may have something to do with the internet service right now I am looking at all possibilities. Just thought you might have a quick answer for me. The computer is not at my home so will have to go to where it is to check all these things. Thanks if you have any more ideas for me to check will appreciate hearing from you.

No, the internet service would not make your computer freeze. It has something to do with your IE or internally within your whole system. If the only program that is freezing is IE then your best bet would be the program. Have you tried to download Netscape Navigator and use that as your explorer? See if that freezes. What about AOL? Lemme know. Hope this is helping you.

This is not a ram issue - its a operating system resources issue. Use msconfig and clean out unnecessary items from your startup. Delete your temporary internet files and clean out the \windows\temp folder.

Everythibng was cleaned out and am using IE 6 or the latest one which evr that is all latest upgrades are done. cleaned out everything. Took off all sounds and display now is just plain on computer. Only thing that runs is Zone Alarm and a virus protector.
It also happens when I use netscape. I just discovered their is a problem with internet Explorer it will not repair says that their was something wrong with the shut down therefore it can`t be repaired or I can`t reload it and I can`t delete it so does that mean I have to format the hard drive.

Is the modems software updated? My modem/router would freeze my computer but then I got the updated software and I fixed the problem.

I have tried all suggestions given to me about how to get this internet not to freeze when browsing or even doing a chat session. Nothing has worked and I agree it is not a program problem.
My question now is few yrs ago I had a computer with an integrated modem and seemed to have the same problem I had the computer for a very short time so called the dealer and they took the computr back and refunded my money.
I had technicians in at the time none of them could find out what the matter was.
Finaly someone suggested it could be a faulty modem. But never got around to getting one as I had my money refunded so bought a new computer. This time I did not get a integrated modem. And for years everything worked fine.
Now computer is a new one again and it has a integrated network adapter so am wondering if this could be the problem.
Am going to do a format of drive on Sat and would appreciate an answer before than in case I should put another network adapter in.
Thanks

Didn`t get any replies so presume it wasn`t a sensible question.
Anyway I did the format and reinstalled everything and seems to be working fine now it is not my computer it is my sons haven`t heard that it isn`t working so presume what was wrong with it was a windows conflict of some kind and not the adaptor.
I do thank all for the previous help.
