Today I downloaded a program in exe format and its supposed to be in .iso. Is there a way that I can change the extension from .exe to .iso. I know renaming it doesnt work cause it just adds the iso extension in addition to the exe.

Hello There:
yes U can rename it to a .iso but it to work as a .iso it actually has to be correctly formatted as one. I assume the place or person U got it from built it as a .iso and he renamed it a .exe for downloading purposes and U just rename it back to a .iso.

try opening the .exe using compression software, winrar, winace, winzip, winarj, etc. It may be a self extracting file and you can get the iso out of it using an appropriate compression program.

Go into DOS mode and go through the DIR and locate the path to your file you want to rename. Then use the REM command to rename it from EXAMPLE.ISO.EXE to EXAMPLE.ISO I had the same thing happen before. I downloaded a ISO file and it was renamed as a .EXE if you right clicked the file and selected properties it read filename.iso.exe. So I had to rename it in DOS. At least this worked for me. Hope this helps. I was then able to open the ISO file in EZ CD Creator and burn it.:)

Open up Explorer, then click on Tools...Folder Options...View. Uncheck the "Hide file extensions for known file types." This will show all file extensions in Explorer, so you can change them at will.

You having to do it in DOS is probably because you had your view settings not to show file extensions, therefore if you have that and rename a file, even if you use a "." followed by characters, the extension will remain unchanged because you cannot view file extensions.

Cool thanks
The DOS rename command is REN, not REM.
