Downloaded a version of Knoppix to CD using Nero, but I can't open it. It is listed as an ISO file so I nead and ISO file to open it with. Should I have downloaded it as a bootable CD instead of Data CD? Do I open it while I am still in windows? Is there a specific file to use to open it? I am not too clear on this, but I want to give Linux a try.

Now you burn the ISO as an image (not as a file) to a CD and boot with it.

Ok, let me try the instructions from the link and see what happens.

DrZaius- You say boot with the CD as in changing bios settings to boot from CD first?

I think I downloaded the first disk the wrong way. I'll have to do it again when I get time using the instructions supplied by Dswissmiss. If that doesn't work I may just break down and buy a copy of red hat or something. Someone said they bought redhat for dummies and it came with the CD for about $30.00.

For inexpensive and legal copies of most linux distros try edmunds:

http://www.edmunds-enterprises.com/linux/index.php

Red hat 9.0 is the linux that they "can't mention by name" and listed as "Linux 9.0". RH can't legally stop people from copying the cds since it's licensed under the GPL but they do prevent you from using their trademarked name when redistrubuting the product. It sells for $7.50, postage included for the three cd set. Mandrake 9.2 final just came out a couple days ago and will be up on edmonds in a week ar two and probably sell for the same price.
