Mandrake 9.0 and 9.2

How do I install video drivers for a Geforce 2 card in Mandrake 9.0 and where can I find an ISO image for 9.2. I keep checking the ftp files at the mandrake site but it only has the tree showing. I'm really new to mandrake, but want to convert over. I'm also a computer teacher to grades K-8 and would like to start instructing them on how to run linux.

There are only 3 ISOs for Mandrake 9.2.

good job teaching them Linux. :cool: i remember my version of tech in 8th grade(4yars ago) was an Apple 2E, now in HS the tech classes here are how to run a word prcessor and stuff like that... *bangs head on wall*.

I am also new to Linux and was about to download the Mandrake 9.1 iso's but I see 9.2 is out. I will probably become a member of Mandrakesoft but want to try it first.

I would like to get the latest version to try, does anyone know where I can download it from?

The download is currently only available for mandrake club members. The 9.2 isos will be available for download by the general public on or about Otober 28 or 29, i.e. two weeks after they were made available to club members which I believe was Oct 14. Should be up in a few days so watch the mirrors.

Edit: Note this errata from the mdk website:

Error scenario: Installing 9.2 and being told unable to install the base system and subsequent reboot reveals that CD-ROM is physically dead.
Why: According to LG Electronics, their ODD (Optical Disc Drive) products do not support Linux nor do they test with Linux. Unfortunately, many Dell computers (possibly others) come with these CD-ROM drives.
Solution: Currently there is no solution or work-around for this issue; it is still under investigation. Damage occurs even when doing a network install. At this point, please do not install Mandrake Linux 9.2 on any computer containing a LG-based CD-ROM or it will damage your CD-ROM! We are actively looking for a solution to this problem.

If you have an LG optical drive DO NOT attempt to install 9.2. It can fry the drive!!!!

My DVD-ROM in my Linux Pc is a Lite-On, no problems. BTW, I have 9.1 which has 3 ISOs., I'm not sure if 9.2 has 3...

That would be an untested driver that is not compatible with the hardware that LG uses in its CD drives.

That's a good question, I've been a board level electronics technician for 20 years and have not found a definitive answer to that.

This not unlike some of the Pioneer DVD burners, that if you don't update the firmware you run the risk of destroying it if you attempt to burn 4x DVD's.

My guess is either the operating system / program is over-pumping the laser or LG is a subsidiary of Microsoft.
