I was going through device manager devices and discovered I haven't got a device driver for video controller (vga compatible). I'm not entirely sure what this device is, but I get the impression it effects the display settings of my computer and my computer's ability to play dvds, which no longer exists. Does anyone know where this driver is meant to come from. ie was it meant to be installed when I installed my operating system.:)

Did you properly install your video card drivers?

I didn't do any installations on this computer. What you're asking is exactly what I've been trying find out. I don't think they are. But I don't know where to get drivers from. Were they meant to come already installed when I bought my computer? Are they additional software I need to buy or are they meant to be a part of the windows xp os.
I have found directx 9.0 which I can download, but I don't know if that is what I need. This is all guess work for me.
