What are you using to copy the data? Windows itself or a program such as Nero?

windows xp will write to a cdr directly, I have not tried it with a cdrw yet, but if the cdrw is already formated, then xp will write to it the same as it will write to any drive or floppy, drag and drop.
so if you want to write to a cdr just do it, if you write to a cdrw, format it first

That's a Catch-22, eh? LOL :) - Don't know if this will help, but I've also not gotten XP to write to a CD-RW, formatted or otherwise :(

Me too, but I still haven't loaded all my software from my fresh XP Pro install..... But I was also under the impression that XP could handle "RWs" -- Oh well.

sorry 2-rails, I mis read your post
xp will not reconize a dvd-rw eather, unless it is formatted first,
and then it is just like a super big floppy 4.7 gig worth.
I just tried it
