just for curiosty what are the accepted heat temps on amd athlons ?? is it anywhere between 40 -70 ??

As long as it's below 60C under full load you're fine. Otherwise you'll need better cooling.

right then, just got a new anodized copper case. swapped over my board and drives , now when im either on the net or playing black hawk/wolfenstein, unreal, cpu temps are hovering around 60/1/2. before in my old crappy £20 quid case my temps were 45 ish. !!!! there is more room in this case, cables are tidy , and no mess. i got obsessed with cooling ages ago , and dont want to start again. LOL !!!

I wouldn't think simply swapping cases would cause a CPU temp rise of 15C. Did you by chance change the heatsink? Is the heatsink fan running? Where are you getting the temps/ from? Is this the same place as other case?

I can see a change in internal case temps and a small change in CPU temps by swapping cases but a 15C change is a bit much in my opinion.

Another thing to check is your case fans. In a larger case, it will take more pressure to get the air moving properly through the case. Make sure that the flow of the air through the case goes over the CPU fan, removing the hotter air from that area.

Did you move the motherboard with the CPU, heatsink, RAM, etc...installed or did you strip it down completely and reassemble everything into the new case?

Check if the heatsink is installed properly.

totally stripped down everything and re assembled it in the new case. same heatsink & fan, temps are reading the same in the bios and on the asus probe. board bios revision is 1012, which is the latest revision for the asus a7v8x.
the whole case feels considerably warmer than my previous one. everything is installed correctly. i have just ordered a new heatsink and fan , but still, shouldnt be getting a rise of that !!!

Did you clean off the old paste/pad and apply new paste such as Artic Silver? That would be required if you removed the heatsink.

certainly did chas me old mate. the pc does sit in a rather confined space, which i am going to modify later, but still wouldnt have thought it would rise by that much!!
this case is well made and is more sturdier than the old crappy flimsy aluminium one.

Yes, close to becoming on fire!
Its has constant Heat and serves as a Radiator in the winter!
thats how hot it is...

Maybe one day it will actually explode ....

anything under 60 is fine. on athalons the melting temp is 90.

got a new heatsink and fan. temps are now 45 and 40 !!!! got a coolermaster cp5 silent, absoloutely fantastic. qiuet as hell. bought a thermaltake volcano 9 ages ago, and ive never used it since i first put it on, and my temps were 60 and it sounded as if you were standing on the platform when the space shuttle took off. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
