I didn't have occasion to use my fax program (BVRP Phone Tools) for well over a year, but when someone tried to send me a fax today I discovered it was not working. The program indicates that it is in receive "ready" mode, the phone rings when the fax is being sent, I can then hear the modem "screech", and the answering "click", after which nothing occurs. (Modem is a Dell V.90 56K)

I've done about as much trouble shooting as I can, resulting in the following: My modem is working as it should for all Internet connections. The fax program is configured for the proper modem, phone number, port (3), printer, etc. (Also, running a modem test program indicates the modem is functioning OK)

I tried reinstalling the fax program from the original disk. The reinstallation stops at about 90% complete and leaves a message that all files could not be installed as they are in use by another program! I had no other programs open, and had disabled programs such as Zone Alarm Pro and Norton Anti-Virus. I also ran a SiSandra diagnostic program which did not indicate any aberrations.

Does anyone have any thoughts as to how to get the fax program back on line?

Computer is a Dell 8100, 400mgz (running Windows XP Home Edition) with all other functions working perfectly.

Uninstall the phone tools and use the Windows XP builtin fax program. If it's not installed, just put the XP cd in and choose add/remove windows components, check the fax box and off you go.

To glc: You were right. It was a snap. I removed Phone Tools and enabled Windows Fax Tools and am now receiving faxes OK. It leaves me a bit puzzled, however, as the Fax Tools program is also BVRP and looks identical to the one I deleted??

Many thanks for your help.
