What do i put in the blanks. Can somebody tell me step by step what to put in? I have a wireless linksys router with one computer wired to it and one computer wireless. The wired computer is the main computer running on Windows ME, and the other runs on XP. I tried putting the main on direct connect to the modem and the wireless on another computer is used to make the connnection.

You can always check the tutorials at www.homenethelp.com. They may have a good step-by-step for you if someone here does not.

I have never used the wizard, but if you tell me what type connection (dsl or cable) I will try to help you set it up.

Also, use the wired computer to access and setup the router, then connect with the wireless one.

I have a cable modem. Even though the wireless computer isn't set up, shouldn't it say there is a wireless connection. It just says no connection and the pci card is in it

No, it won't state a wireless connection until everything is configured and the connection is made.

With cable you will need to access the router, under WAN you will select Dynamic IP ( not sure of the wording, I'm using a D-link router), then clone the MAC address of the network card in the wired computer. To find the mac address, open the command prompt and type ipconfig/all and look at the physical address, that is it. Then make sure DHCP is enabled, save all your settings. Then open IE and see if the wired computer is online. After the wired computer is online, you can access the router again and setup the wireless part.

Ok....access the router and under the wireless section you can either change the SSID name to one you want or you can leave it as default for now. Take note of the SSID name, the channel the router is set to and disable WEP until you have a connection. Save your settings. Then open the software for the wireless card on the laptop and make sure the SSID and channel settings are the same as the router and the wireless mode is infrastructure. There should be an option to scan for connections and if you don't see one refresh it, then you should have a connect option. Let me know how it goes, it's been awhile since I have done Linksys.

Are you talking about the software for the wireless card?

If so, try double clicking the icon in the system tray.

I just remembered the last Linksys wireless card I worked on didn't have the icon in the system tray. Go into the network properties, highlight the wireless card and click properties, then the Advanced tab. The setting can be checked or changed there.

No, you can setup the router on the wired computer.

3 threads on the same issue makes it very difficult to maintain continuity. I'm closing this one too.
