sold two new computers with pcchips boards which have onboard sis lan.
old computers which were in place on a peer to peer network work just fine with pci lan cards. they use a router. plug in the new computers and they see themselves but if you try to map the drives you get an error about the computer name. the computer name shows up just fine elsewhere on the system. the other people on the network see them but cannot access anything. drives are shared. the two new problem computers are running 98se, the rest of the network is ME. the network people tell me that they have seen problems prior to this with pcchips and sis onboard lan.
i took another computer, also pcchips with sis, and it would not set up either. put an old laptop just to see and it worked fine. what is going on?
the networking people checked all the protocols and everything supposedly is in place.
please let me know if you have seen this problem or solved this problem.

PC CHIPS are garbage boards and you probably never will be able to get them to work correctly, so you will probably have to use NICs instead of the on-board. But then with PC CHIPS boards thay will probably cause some other problem.
Just one more bit of information for you, by building with PC CHIPS you are insuring that your reputation is or will be ruined.
