Can some one tell me if Win98se has the drivers for the 440lx chipset?

Hi Carl,

I'm pretty sure Win98SE has the drivers for the Intel BX chipset, so it should have the drivers for the LX chipset. (been awhile since I've installed Win98SE on any of my computers)

Mornin' Cricket,

I'm hoping the drivers are on the Win98se cd as I HAVE to remove W2K and install 98.
I saw some drivers at the Tekram site, but as usual, they are alittle confusing.

It probably has them. That was a pretty standard Intel chipset. Are you refurbishing a system for someone?

If Win98SE doesn't have the drivers for that chipset (I really think it does though...I don't remember having to install any chipset drivers off any motherboard CD when installing Win98SE on any of my BX based computers), you can always go to the Intel website and download and run the Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility (http://www.intel.com/design/software/drivers/platform/440_index.htm).

My father-in-law is going blind so I'm doing what I can for him to beable to see as much as he can. Win98 is familiar to him and W2k is not. He wants his W98 back, so he gets it back. :)

When you install Win98se, do the Custom install, and include all the Accessability options. Also include the extra pointers in the Accessories group. This way he can use the extra large fonts, and have the utility called "Magnifier" - a very handy and easy-to-use applet that opens a rectangular window that can browse anywhere on the current screen magnified several times (and it's adjustable).

I can't remember if the Narrator utility is in the Win98se accessibility bundle or not: but if his vision gets much worse, that sort of utility is very nice to have: it reads the text on-screen. Helps with reading e-mail, which often comes in smaller fonts.

Thanks for the suggestions. He has been using the "Magnifier" for a year now. I'll check out the "pointers" for sure.
As far as a "Narrator" option is concerned, I almost think I may have to check into a third party program if he wants to use that.

BTW, W98se did include all the drivers for the mobo.
