Yet more cooling advice!

Having just built my first new system (Athlon XP2400+, Asus AV8X-X) I've tweaked the settings a little so it's running at a reported 2.23Ghz.
Under high load the CPU runs at about 61C avareage with an idle temp of about 10 degrees or so below that.
What's the usual running temp of this CPU,and should I be worried about the temp it's running at because I can't fit any more fans in the case I have (there's 4 already and it sounds like concord taking off lol).

That seems fine to me, are you using the stock HSF or a 3rd party one.

As long as the system is stable and you are not getting any shutdowns then that should be good to go.

Its a 3rd party one tho not a brand named one, the CPU was an OEM purchase (all that money and I only get a little black bag?????).
I have to say, the shop I bought all the bits from is very geared up to building budget systems, which, strictly speaking I didn't really want. But as it was my first go at building my own system I more or less followed their advice.
My only real regret is the Radeon9200SE graphics card, I should really have gone for something a bit more upmarket.

Thanks for the reassuring advice, I don't mind the system running reasonably warm, it saves on the central heating at least, esp with all my case fans pumping out all that hot air lol.

my 2400 runs at same speed as yours.my temps 45 idle 50 full load.with two case fans and aero 7+ hsf.my new case hold 9 fans so we will see about temps

40-50 idel speed no worries but when your working your cpu u said its running at 61? be cautious but unless you get reboots or smoke it should be fine kep an eye on it

After reading some of the other threads about cooling problems I'm a bit concerned about the temp under full load.

The temp recorded was when running 3DMark, so everything was under a lot of pressure and I got a surprisingly low 6000 score (tho it was better than the 1300 I got with my old system lol).

Since this morning running MayaPLE and Photoshop it hasn't gone above 51C but I#ll definately keep an eye on it.

You gotta remember that this is under full load...100% CPU utilization...the CPU will get hot when it's pushed to the max. If the computer is running stable when the CPU is maxed out, then you're doing fine.

But if you want to get the temps down, that's up to you...it's your computer. Just know that you're not hurting anything running at that temp (the CPU lifespan will shorten just a bit, but you're talking about something that could run for decades at normal temps...I'm sure you'll upgrade or build a new computer long before then).
