View Full Version : rogue spear.....is it my video card?
hello everybody, this is my first post here and i will be the first to admit i know zilch about computers but i'm havin fun anyway, my problem is this, while playing rogue spear, on or offline, i get a lot of 'lag', its almost to the point that the game is unplayable, i've contacted red storm and done the things they suggested but didn't help, i've down loaded 3.02.02 for 3dfx and direct8,still no happiness,i get this problem mostly in rogue sp. but also some in green beret spec ops2, again, on or offline, i have a compaq model 5461, i 've added a voodoo2, its an amd processor and it says its got 56mb ram, any suggestions? do i need a new video card and if so which would be the best for rogue spear type games?.....thnx cuss

Well, memory is quite low and the graphics board is outdated too (But it's not a bad one, I have one too). I don't know what the speed of your CPU is, but probably it's under 500Mhz.
To play the latest games you need a +500Mhz cpu, 128Mb RAM and Voodoo 5 5500 (I don't want to recommend a Voodoo 4) or Geforce (Anything with Geforce stamped on it shoud do the trick, but of course Geforce 2 is better).
If you want to upgrade, post all the specs of the current system. If we have a lot of info, we can help you better.
thanks for the reply mosquito, its 500mhz, pci, i think i will try a newer card and see what happens, does geforce make pci cards?....

I don't know if there are PCI GeForces available. But there is a PCI Voodoo 5. I strongly recommend you to upgrade to 128Mb Memory, the lag can be caused by disk swapping.
Agreed on the disk swapping. He's right, 96-128 megs is about the minimum for today's games.
A Voodoo5 wouldn't hurt either, and since 3dfx is soon to be sold to nVIDIA, all 3dfx cards are super cheap right now. The same Voodoo5 that was worth 300 bucks a few months ago can be had for 150ish online now.
More RAM, more vid card, and you should be in good shape.
