I'm using safari on my Mac, whenever i want to do a search i move my mouse to the search field box and that bloody pull down ad activates. I then have to resort to some cursor gymnastics and approach the search field stealthly to avoid activation and actually perform my search. Thank god the advertisers came up with that excellent way of encouraging better mouse control, without them my accuracy would go to pot.

Look on the birght side, your scores in FPSs will improve. OK maybe not really.... But those ads are paying for this site, and soon it will be replaced by another ad(hopefully less anoying). Or you could disable flash.

But you know, $600-1200 for a digital camera really isn't too bad. ;)

Yeah, it is rather annoying. The forums seem really slow on my dialup connection since that thing started too. Don't know if there's a connection there or just coincidence.

Every time I start to click on a link it comes down and I end up clicking on that instead.

im in stealth mode (at work) with a browser about 1/6th the size of my screen.

When it comes down it covers everything but the window frame, I am forced to click the frame to get the thing to relax.

When I can see nothing on the screen I am trying to view it is a bit invasive.

I hope they are paying alot for that banner space.

I will never buy anything from ads that force themselves upon me.

it's paying for this site, and pcmech rocks so i'm ok with it. everybody should get some form of ad-control...they're only going to get worse on the internet, may as well find one now, there are a ton of free ones out there.

What ad ? I haven't ever seen one on here, nor do I click on them if I happen to see one. If I want to buy something I'll go and look for it not click on the freaking flashing ad.

Its an endless cycle, though. Sites like this depend on the revenue from ads to survive. The companies which advertise need to make money or they won't advertise. Users are constantly devising ways to not respond to advertising, leaving companies to find more and more intrusive ways to get your attention.

So, what are you using that's blocking it? The majority of ad-controller programs I've seen are for pop-up style ads, not banners. I'm using Mozilla Firebird which has a built in pop-up stopper, but this banner ad still shows up. I don't know of any banner blockers so somebody please enlighten me. :)

If it ever came down to paying for this site and having no ads or having ads and keeping PCMech free, I bet most people would opt for the latter.

i aint never seen one single add yet from this site.

I got spyware blaster, spybot, and the GOOGLE TOOLBAR installed.
The google toolbar does tell me its blocking something when I come here, but I dont see it. I guess it must be the adds u guys are chatting about...

try the google toolbar, or the other software. I dont get any pop-up ads at all anymore. Thankfully, I got a nice calm PC. There was a time, when I had to close about 100 windows just to see the real page I was after!!!

Zinedene > The ad in question wasn't actually a popup style like what the Google bar and other popup stoppers kill. It was actually just a banner ad like the one that's always above the blue buttons (user cp, register, calendar, etc) at the top of the page. Only difference was you didn't have to click on it like most of these. You just moved your mouse cursor over any part of the ad and a drop down menu of sorts would open up and cover part of the screen, including those blue buttons. Rather annoying.

I get ya, but I dont see them aswell.
All banners etc are replaced with a grey box on mine...
no extra boxes, or drop down menus...

but I understand what u mean.
