Fans too loud! What can I do?

I have six fans in my computer. 1 heat sink fan, 1 ps fan, 1 rear fan that serves as exhaust, 1 front panel fan and 2 on the clear side panel. With all of these on, my computer sounds like a 747 jumbo jet that is ready to take off. How can I reduce these annoying noise. Do those fan gaskets work?

Not sure of Fan Gaskets, but Fan controllers allow you to turn on/off the fans as necessary. This also helps reduce the noise from your PC. You can try Akasa Acoustical absorbtion mat, quiet(er) HS/Fan, and Quieter Fans...

How 'bout earplugs? Just kidding. Honestly though, do you actually *need* all of those fans to keep the system cool? Have you tried disabling the two side fans and maybe the front fan to see what your temps do? Most computers only need one exhaust fan (along with the PS fan), the HS fan and *maybe* the front intake fan. Only real reason for having the side fans is if you have like a really hot-running video card or something that needs the extra circulation. Otherwise, side fans can actually interrupt the smooth air flow path from the front intake to the rear exhaust and make some machines run hotter than without them. I'd try disabling the three fans I mentioned above and see what the temps do. If it doesn't rise drastically, you'll be okay like that. Also, make sure you don't have a bunch of cables and wires hanging down in the airflow path from the front fan to the rear. If there are, zip tie them up out of the way.

Putting rubber grommets on your fans will cut down on vibration noise, but not on regular fan noise. If you are getting vibration noise with your window, you can use a rubber washer / grommet.

Try unplugging one window fan and the front fan. See if that takes the noise down to a reasonable level.

Do you have an Intel or AMD system? If you have Intel, I would say that you could easily just get away with the rear exhaust fan only.

You can also try the 7 volt trick (http://people.freenet.de/s.urfer/7vtrick.htm) to slow down your fans to reduce noise.

Gosh, I have the same problem...but most of the noise is coming from the Hard drive....

jees . u certainly dont need all those fans. ive just got a coolermaster cpu heatsink & fan cp5 and its near enough silent. take all your other fans out, and see if your temps stay between 40/60 , if so , then bin them , you dont need them. what is the accepted norm is one at the front (intake) and one at the back (exhaust).

the fan noise doesnt bother me cuz its a nice whirrr~ but the hdd is ANNOYING! its like a high pitch eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee~~~

i3oss, I don't know if this applies to you, but sometimes the high pitched "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee", as you put it, can be a sign of the drive failing or trying to lock up. It wouldn't be a Western Digital drive would it? Some of those are famous for the "wheee of death" noise.

It can also be a sign of a bad cable. Change your IDE cables, and see if that cuts the hard drive noise down.
