Is it ok or possible to run a desktop without a CD-ROM?? My cousin is fed up with her husband loading game after game onto it and she wants me to remove it. I just want to be sure that the system will be ok without it.

I know there are other methods of preventing this (such as setting a password on her account and turning "Guest" off), but this is what she wants.

It's and eMachines computer running WinXP Home. Besides the CDROM, it only has the floppy drive.

Merci!!

Sure.. just cant install or run anything that requires a CD-Rom... they ran that way all the time before CD-Roms.

Ok...cool...but everything that's on there will work properly, right?

Thats what she wants...for him not able to load anything on there. Besides she only uses it for word processing 97% of the time. :P

Oh...one more thing, do I need to adjust the jumpers on the HDD, or anything else for that matter??

If the CDROM and HD are on the same IDE channel, you will have to change jumper settings if the HD is not already set to master. I couldn't see anyone configuring the IDE channels like that though. Most likely, the HD is on one channel, and the CDROM is on the other. In this case, you won't have to change any jumper settings.

Cool!! Thanks Hal9000 and Iniamyen!!

The HD and the CDROM are on their own IDE channel.

Thanks again!!

Here's the easy way to take care of it - just turn off the secondary IDE connector in the bios, then password the bios access. That makes it easy to re-enable it if she does need it for something. If the bios doesn't allow this, just disconnect the ribbon and power cables from the drive.
