The recent OS poll along with marvin's respons got me wondering, what do you guys do on your computer and what do you guys do for a living?
Me, I just graduated with a first class in IT so I've been doing a host of things on it, from programming straight through to writing up documentation. As a profession I work in the IT managment side, specifically IT consulting (planning, designing and implementing solutions for organisations) so I'm required to be familiar with IT trends etc, but mainly enterprise applications such as ERP's CRM's etc. That's where I NEED a powerful OS, and as much as I would hate to admit, Linux is the preffered choice of many clients.

I edit video and audio on my powerbook on location, It's replaced my iBook as my primary PC so I use it for pretty much everything else too. I use my Wintel XP desktop every now and then to play a game or two. My 2k server does exactly that, it serves me.

I compose/edit music, play around with my MIDI keyboard, figure out riffs to songs and the like. Aside from that I do light gaming, web surfing, some photoshop, and spend time adjusting/tweaking my PC. I am a semi-pro Alto Saxophonist...

This may be a long list. For my real job, I maintain my Palm data base, fax or email quotes to customers, do call reports, access web sites of manufacturers I sell for to check specs or product availability, and I just created a new line card for all of us sales guys. For my hobby/business of restoring computers I've created business cards, labels to go on new builds, and business forms. For home/personal use I maintain a Christmas mailing list, email friends and family around the country, IM with my daughter who is going to college in Iowa, convert my old LP's and cassettes to CD's for myself and some friends, download and rework digital photos, play some games, and I'm in the process of writing an autobiography to pass on to each of my children so the experiences of my generation are not forgotten by the time their kids are adults. There's more, but that's enuf for now.:D

Teamspeak Server
Battlefield 1942 game server
Forums related to said game server.
my personal email
and a mailing list for the forum staff here
I've used FreeBSD for years, but due to the game server and voice server requiring Linux and Linux emulation on the BSDs being rather shotty still, it now runs Debian.
Previously it ran Win2k server before the game in question had a working server for Linux, and sported uptime of 2 or 3 days on average, while getting broken into by warez kiddies by ftp exploits 3 times (nothing says "hack me" like an unfirewalled windows server with about 10 megabits of bandwidth going out of it).
The day a stable Linux version of the game server came out it was switched to Debian, and now I log in once a month to run security patches, otherwise the server is forgotten about ;).

play games
surf internet for information/learning
video editing
watch tv
listen to music
email
use it as: typewriter, calculator, filecabinet, copier, fax
although I like to make sure my PC has the ability to do just about anything, makes it nice to have something to go on when working on other computer problems, weather it be for work or friends.
as far as linux goes, I'm in the same boat as bailey, only I dont have irc working on it probably because I dont really use irc.
funny too because I'm asked that every so often, (what do you use linux for) and I really dont have a personal use for it, but it's there for me
lol
