clone hard drives with only 1 available connection?

OK, here goes. I am running window XP pro, and have a 10 gig hard drive. Got a WD 200 gig hardrive on the way and need to know how to clone the info on the old to the new one. I cannot hook up another hardrive to this computer as it can only accomidate one at a time. I need all settings and programs to stay intact as well as the windows information. any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Western Digital includes a utility to clone the old drive to the new with their Data Lifeguard tools. If the new drive is retail (i.e box, cable, instructions, etc.) then it will come with a floppy disk that has the program on it. If not, go to www.westerndigital.com and download the latest version. If you can only accomodate one hdd at a time, disconnect one of your optical drives and use that cable. Then just reconnect everything and boot into Windows. The clone utility will make an exact replica.

Temporarily disconnect one of the other IDE devices on the secondary IDE channel - like a CD drive.

WD Data Lifeguard 11.0 should let you clone the drive, get the DOS version and make the bootdisk. Install the new drive on the primary master and move the old drive to the channel you freed up - then boot with the DLG disk and clone Drive 1 to Drive 0. When done, remove the old drive and hook the disconnected device back up. Note that you should be using an 80 wire Ultra ATA cable and Cable Select jumpering on the primary channel.

Make sure your bios supports drives larger than 137gb, and that you already have SP1 for XP installed.

unfortuneatly, this is some sort of all in one computer where the LCD monitor is part of the case and I can't remove sub stitute a HD for an opticle drive. It is not a tower case. Is there some way of putting the information from the 10 Gig HD onto CDs and then copying them to the new HD?

Remove the hard drive and slave it and the new drive into another standard computer, and clone it.
