hard drive ?

Ok im going to be ordering a hard drive tonight its a HITACHI(IBM) HD 120GB P/N 07N9549 7200RPM 8MB ATA100 Bulk and its bulk so im assuming that means its just the hard drive only that I will be getting? so what else do I need to order to be able to install this hard drive properly???

Well first I'd advise against a Hitachi hdd as they are definitely not well known for their hard drives. You'd be better off going with either a Western Digital or Maxtor drive instead. Other than that, you'll need an IDE cable if you don't already have one, as well as screws to secure the drive in the computer.

and what about a Seagate SATA HD 120GB Barracuda Serial ATA V P/N ST3120026AS 7200RPM SATA150 Bulk? is that a pretty good hard drive?

I'd go with the Western Digital unless the Seagate is your only other option. The Seagates used to have a reliability issue, but the current drives may be better now.

As far as the screws go, I can't tell you what size they are or if they're SAE or metric...remove one from an existing hard drive in your computer and take it with you to the hardware store and show it to a clerk...they'll give you the exact ones you'll need. Buy a bunch of them as they're something you'll need if you keep building computers.

ok im about to purchase this hard drive right here - Western Digital HD 120GB P/N WD1200JB 7200RPM 8MB ATA100 Bulk. its the drive only so I need to buy a cable right? well what kind do I need for this particular hard drive?

For an existing computer, there may be an open connector on one of the IDE cables.

For a new build, the IDE cable will come with the motherboard. No need to buy one separately.
