linux distro I like [Archive]

I've tried red hat 8.0...it got to be annoying how slow it ran. Tried out a version of linux I had never heard of till recently called Knoppix... I love this OS!!! Played with it in my hardware/software class, and I've got to say I like it much better.

Knoppix is a good one for trying out Linux.

I still prefer Red Hat, BSD or Mandrake distros personally.

Red Hat of course will no longer be free so I'll probably go with BSD in the future.

BSD is not linux...not even a distro (a distro is freebsd,netbsd,openbsd...)

I prefer debian.

Yeah...sorry about that. I was refering to freebsd as an OS that I like too. Just got sloppy in my typing.

I believe Knoppix is a Debian based OS.

I've tried Mandrake 9.1 & 9.2, Redhat 9, Fedora severn and Core, Knoppix and Dedian 3.0r1. All had trouble with wireless connections where I could never get them to access the internet using wireless. I am a newbie though so I am still muddling through. Heck, Debian wouldn't even open a screen no matter how many times I;ve tried with different configurations. I am now using Libranet. They are also Debian based. Their enterprise system you have to buy but their classic edition is free. The classic edition comes with open office, video players, CD-r/w and more, and all off of one disk. Still has troulbe with my wireless, but I am no worse off than before. I may give SOT linux a try, formerly called Best Linux.

If your looking to try dffierent OS take a look at Icepack Linux. Don't know much about them but the screenshots of their OS are very cool.

Wow, thats weird that you had trouble with fedora, it's the only one thats works well with my hardware, all the rest just had weird flaws that i didn't like.

Yeah, For some reason Netgear MA301 USB and D-link DWL-520 PCI are problems for all Linux systems it seems. Or it is just me, I don't know. I also didn't have any luck with my monitor and Fedora on my HP laptop, though Redhat 9 handled it fine.
