You might look at http://invoice-central.com/reasons.php It doesn't print receipts per sey, but creates a invoice that can show amount due or balance as zero if paid in full. They have a free trial download. I've been using it about four years and find it easy to use.

We use Quickbooks to do that. Excel works well if you create the templates you need.

Excel also has a number of templates built in which you can access in Excel by going to File>New.

Additional templates for invoices, time sheets and various other business management needs can be downloaded for free from Microsoft: http://office.microsoft.com/templates/default.aspx

Excel and Business Plus Accounting

I mentioned Quickbooks because it's the mainstream small business accounting package, but I'd assume any competing product would be able to do the same thing - such as Peachtree or what tyoung mentioned. The advantage of using one of these over Excel or any other spreadsheet is integration with all the company's finances. Even though I use Excel out in the field, all data eventually has to be entered into Quickbooks for our records.
