I used Roxio to make an MP3 CD for my car (I just got a Saturn Ion which has a built in MP3 player). Problem is, my car will not read the M3U playlist and plays the tracks back alphabetically. I can't figure it out, is it the car or Roxio that's the source of my problem?

Two things.
First, you can't expect a car stereo to read the M3U list, it hasn't got any software.
Second, Roxio will only burn in alphabetical order, so they're going to play that way.
You can change the burn order by renaming the songs temporarily (put numbers in front of the tracks, 01, 02, 03, etc.).

The manual for my car specifically says that the player is capable of reading an M3U list, the only stipulation is that it's filename isn't more then 32 characters long. Since I kept it's default name of playlist, I thought I would be fine. But when I used Roxio to burn the CD it played alphabetically in my car and it didn't even see the playlist. I'm wondering if it's because when I used Roxio it not only added the playlist, it put in an autorun and an exe file. Is there an easier way to make MP3 Cd's?

Yeah, get Nero and uninstall Roxio...;)
I know that's not much help, but I never did have any luck getting Roxio's stuff to do what I wanted.
I still resort to numbering the tracks the way I want them, then burning.
Maybe someone with more Roxio experience will jump in here.

So how do I use Nero to make an MP3 CD? I don't have much experience with that program.

Nero Express - Music - MP3 Disc, follow the prompts.

I don't have that option in my version of Nero. I have 5.5, the version that came with my burner, and I can't find an option to make an MP3 CD.

In your version of Nero, you have the Nero Wizard (HELP>USE NERO WIZARD).

Click on that and you can take it from there.

Okay, I've tried Roxio, and Nero, and the CD's still play alphabetically as opposed to in playlist order when I put it in my car. Any other suggestions? Maybe I'm making the playlist wrong or something?

They will always burn alphabetically.
Do as Jim says and rename them with a number in front
01 song name
02 song name
Number them in the order that you want them to play

And try reading the manual for the player. It's quite possible that it's simply not seeing the playlist.

Okay, I've read the manual and the general gist is it'll read any playlist that has the m3u extension and is not more then 32 characters long. Is there any other alternative besides numbering the tracks, because, it being an Mp3 CD, I'm not exactly keen on randomly numbering close to 200 songs, half of which are in folders of their own. Doing that every time I make an Mp3 CD is bound to cause a little insanity :)...

Welcome to the world of pirated music.
If you want a copy that badly, in the order you choose, you're going to have to number them.
Your other option is to get some clarification on how the player reads an .m3u file.
We've given you as much help as you're going to get here.
