hardware compatability

How does one install a wireless NIC in linux? This was SUPPOSEDLY allowed according to the guide at linuxjunior.org... Other than replacing it with one that is compatabile, what other way is ther?? By the way, I'm a Linux newbie so... yeah

What linux distro are u using? alot of times they'll recognize it after a reboot...

Using Mandrake Linux 9.1, and still very confused mainly on the startup part, where it says something about kernel compiling...:)

never used 9.1, i downloaded 9.2 and the install is much like windows. It's basically asking which kernel will be best for your hardware, whetther you use scsi drives or ide devices and so forth, just try one , see if it works well, if not reinstall it agian using another kernel...

You also may want to try www.linuxquestions.org. They have a forum that is ditro specific. I am still unabel to set up two different wirless adapters because of compatbility issues. This was with Mandrake 9.1, Mandrake 9.2, Redhat 9, Fedora Core 1. I am now working with Debian 3.0r1. Can't even get that one booted to GUI yet. It is a learning experience. If it wasn't for the fact that Linux is free or at least nominal in charge and that I am stubborn, I would have given up already.
