Try www.linuxquestions.org or www.justlinux.org if you are looking for the differences in Linux OS. I am not an expert on Linux but I have been researching a few OS from them. Red Hat, now Fedora, Mandrake and Suse are all fairly similar and geared to new users with easy installs and have more of a M$ feel. Gentoo, Debian, Libranet are a bit more diffcult to install but give you more room to customize your set-up. Slackware, FreeBSD, LinuxFS are more for experienced users where you install just about everything, basically building your own system. There is also Knoppix and Gnoppix which are Debian based OS's but run from the CD, you don't even need to install on the HD unless you intend to save stuff.

Of course we are missing any mention of the "BSD" OS's.....
I am favorable to FreeBSD myself.
