this really confuses me the Albatron Geforce FX 5900 Turbo, 8X AGP, 256MB DDR, DVI+VGA+VIVO MODEL FX5900QV - RETAIL and the ATI RADEON 9800XT 256MB DVI/TV 8X AGP RETAIL have almost the same specs
(the radeon's clock speed is 2Mhz faster, and the Geforce's memory speed is much faster)
but the radeon still costs more for some reason
and even more absurdly the ASUS V9950 Ultra 256MB GeForce FX5900 Video Card, Model V9950Ultra/TD/256M - Retail has better specs than both of them but is cheaper than the Radeon and not much pricier than the albatron Geforce
AND the Chaintech NVIDIA GeForce FX5950 Ultra 256MB Video Card, Model SA5950U - Retail has MUCH better specs than both of them and still is cheaper than the radeon
is something wrong here or is there some reason why the radeon costs so much more?
just tell me cus im a newb and i dont kno about these things and im buying a new video card and im confused on which one to get because of these perplexing specs and prices

wuts wrong with the Nvidia's?
the Nvidia's preform well and are cheaper
aren't the Nvidia's direct x 9 support good enough?
im looking for a hardcore gameing vid card and i've heard radeon's the best but aren't the Nvidia's good enough?

Not if you want a hardcore gaming card. As of right now, none of the nVidia cards will run HalfLife2 in DX9 mode. Valve had to write a specific code path just so the 5900/5950 cards looked decent.

Then you need a Radeon to enjoy the games that use the DX9 API.
Some games -like Max Payne 2- will just refuse to run if you don't have a video card that supports DX9 via hardware.
Oh, and even if you are not a gamer, you still want the ATi, for it has better picture quality than the nVidias.

im a gamer a hardcore gamer and what i really need is a video card that will last
so the radeon would probably support most of the high end games that come out for the next 6 years right?

6 years is a long time, i would be cautious 3 maybe 4, thats technology for you.

The general impression I am getting from all the Radeon vs Invidia posts are that the Radeon graphics are much better although the Invidia is faster. You can't see past 70 frames per second..so who cares how fast its running as long as your running over 70 FPS.
After reading all these posts I bought the Radeon 9800XT because of its graphics, stability and fewer driver hassles.

Redeon is the best performing card you can get right now. The Nvidia cards do not perform well and are over priced.

Have you looked at the initial HL2 benchmarks? The GeForce FXs weren't even able to compete with the Radeons in terms of frames per second.
