After trying to get an answer at ATI for the past few days, I am giving up on them. I think "all" of there responses are automated.
What I am trying to find out is:
I have a ATI 9200 128MBDDR vid card. It works fine. Actually, it works great. I really like it after having had to deal with VooDoo cards for the last few yrs.
There are new Catalyst drivers out and I am wondering if I should upgrade to them?
Thanks in advance

If you read at their web site, they say to only update if you are having problems. But, then who listens to them? Update at your own risk, if you don't like you can always go back to a previous version.

Updating drivers is optional, but I'm one of the dummies that just does it to stay current. I usually wait 30 days or so for others to be the lab rats that find the bugs in a new driver. Just for reference, I have a Sapphire ATI 9200 128Mb DDR, and I updated to the drivers from Omega. They are modified ATI Catalyst drivers developed more for gamers, but I find my systems work better with them than the standard ATI Catalyst drivers. Here's a link if you're interested:

Go here : http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/catalyst_3.9/
and read the review of the latest catalyst drivers.
Just remember that a 9200 is a DX 8 card when you get to the conclusions at the end.

pam123 ,
When I got the 9200, it says on the box microsoft dir x 9.0 compatable. It was part of the reason I went with it in the first place.
ahhh

I am also one of those dummies that will go and update/upgrade/make better/make faster/ and so on. Only to have it sometimes backfire. I guess that is the dummy part, because if it ain't broke why am I always trin to fix it?
I will probably try the ones at the site Panama Red posted.

Panama Red? Panama Red?
hmmmm, I can't seem to remember just what that is a reference to...
Thanks for all the help.

It is compatible with DX 9 but it is NOT a DX 9 card, it's a refreshed 8500 with it's AGP speed at 8X.
The link to firingsquad is because it's a driver review. They'll tell you if the new catalyst will cause any trouble and that can spare you alot of unnecessary grief.

Would you believe --my drag race cars were called "Panama Red" and "Panama Red, too!" back in the 70's? Remember the song by The New Riders of the Purple Sage, "Panama Red is back in town"? Now, as for what both of those were in reference to, I forget too. But then I suffer from memory loss sometimes.;)

Panama Red was (ahem) a particular species of an illegal smoking substance that just happens to be suspected of contributing to memory loss...... :D

Now wait a minute! I don't remember doing anything illegal, and if I did, it wasn't by design, and besides I never inhaled -- oh yeah, one more thing -- just ignore that man behind the curtain!! :D
