hi i was debating on what heat sink/fan i should get for my new computer. It has a 1ghz amd t-bird cpu. I was thinking of getting either the super chrome orb or global win 38. The global win supports up to 1 ghz and the chrome supports up to 1.5 ghz. However, i think i read somewhere that it is hard to install or fit the chrome. Both have its disadvantages and advantages.... i think? well please tell me what you think.

The ORB rated second worst (worse than a stock Intel fan!).
Get the globalWin.

You may also want to consider an Alpha pal 6035.
The Alphas are about top of the heap.
TiaSol also makes some excellent heatsinks and are well worth considering.

I was going to dispute Reboot but after some research he is right. I have always had good luck with the Orb line. Hey they look cool. The main problem that The Super Chrome Orb has is that some motherboards have resistors too close to the processor and don't allow the fan to seat without modification. The Orb does not appear on AMD's Athlon approved thermal list

I've got a GlobalWin on my Duron, a FOP32-1, and it works fine, but I'd agree with Alfie on the Alpha. Both the FOP38-1 and the Alpha PAL6035 can be had with the same Delta 38 cfm fan, but the Alpha has a copper base, which should be a much better heat conductor than the aluminum base on the GlobalWin.

Here's one, this has the quieter fan, there's another there, but it uses a more powerful fan, that is noisy.

ok here we go.
I have decided to get the alpha pal6035 w/ sanyo denki fan. This is after a lot of research and the advice from you guys. I've heard good things about the sanyo denki fan and how quiet it is but my question to you is.. if it is good on another heatsink besides the alpha?? does it always have to be used with the alpha to be good? The reason why i ask this is because every site that i've been to is sold out or backordered for the alpha w/ sanyo. If you can find it PLEASE give me the link. my last last resort was to get the expensive hedgehog 238 w/ sanyo fan.
please continue ur helpful advice and suggestions

Well, I've got a "Super ORB" on my Duron 700 (O.C. to 850). System temp runs about 77F: CPU 98F (under load). The cooler seems to be doing a good job, and is fairly quiet to boot. I would use another without hesitation!
