My sister is bringing me her 6 month old computer to straighten it out. She says that it has gotten very slow, and often just hangs at startup. Since her daughter has spent many hours on the regular Kazaa site, I am sure the computer is filled with garbage and probably even a few viruses. Instead of trying to clean out the computer, I was just going to use the restore disc that came with the computer and start over. I am not sure how that restore disc. works, but I believe it will probably start by formatting the hard drive, and then reinstall Windows XP Home, and then all the drivers and programs that came with the computer. My question is---if there is a virus in the computer, can it get onto the restore disc ? I do not believe it can, but just wanted to make sure. Many thanks in advance.

The Restore disk should "restore" the HDD to it's original condition. I don't think a virus could infect the disk.

If they ever get smart enough to write to read-only media in a read-only device, I'm looking for another field.
